A Lifetime of Sharing the Gospel
The classicist education that the boy Frank deemed “useless” as a student enrolled in both Catholic and Presbyterian preparatory schools in Cuba, Spain and Puerto Rico (what in heaven’s name is the earthly utility of learning classical Greek and Latin?) would later prove invaluable to him as he came to pursue theological training, no doubt contributing to his graduating at the very top of his class at Andrews University’s Theological Seminary (Master of Divinity, 1984).
But Frank is quick to tell you that his real education, the one that helped him survive through the thick and thin of life, started when he was forced to flee Cuba with his mother with only the clothes on their backs (his father having landed in the cruelest of Cuban prisons as punishment for his militant opposition to the totalitarian, tyrannical and –at the time— godless regime that Fidel Castro had implemented in the island).
The experience gave Frank an appreciation for the unalienable freedoms that God has naturally endowed to and embedded in every one of His children. It also instilled in him a deep love for America, the country that was forged in the caldron of another, more noble revolution, one dedicated to securing, enshrining and protecting said freedoms (although it would take another long and bloody war to ensure their ultimate, universal application, albeit imperfectly). None of Frank’s encounters with the infelicities of his life growing up in the South of the late 60’s and early 70’s could sour this deep love of his for the home of “Lady Liberty.”
The book Chasing Success, Finding Destiny, while not an autobiography, is sprinkled with the most salient of these personal stories. A miraculous, angel-propitiated deliverance and a God-given dream (a la Joseph), would eventually land Frank the dream job of his life: becoming the Speaker/Director for the world’s largest and oldest, Faith-based, radio program in the Spanish language: La Voz de la Esperanza (founded in 1942 by The Voice of Prophecy).
The nearly two-decade-long-destiny-ride exposed Frank the evangelist to the unbounded power of God to change even the most sin-hardened of lives. Another two decades plus in pastoral ministry (accumulated before and after the La Voz experience) has blessed him with an understanding of the challenges facing the people of God as they go about their daily lives, as well as the tall task confronting the faithful minister who tries to uphold Biblical truths and standards in times when they are held in ridicule. To say nothing of the most vital work of said ministers: to help ready a people to meet their soon-coming Lord.
Embracing retirement from denominational employment, but seeking to be helpful in the kingdom of God, Pastor Frank is deploying his love of letters and his experience as an evangelist to write books that he hopes will prove helpful to genuine seekers who are keen on discovering their truest destiny, the one that the Savior of the World fought the hardest of all battles to provide. As the great Mark Twain once famously said: “The two most important days in your life are: the day you are born and the day you find out why.”
